No me voy a
A partir
The Space Merchants (in networks)
I'm not going to refer to that fictional dystopia of Pohl
and Kornbluth, already a science fiction classic. But what I come to say, like
the novel mentioned, is related to capitalism and advertising. They are the new
merchants of social networks; the so-called "influencers". By
denomination they are people who have a certain credibility on a specific
topic, able to influence the opinion of others. And it has to do with Instagram
where you have to have 10,000 followers, many "likes" and report
tenaciously for the cattle to follow you. You can buy the followers for a small
fee and if you are a "trend"the brands will keep an eye on you for
promotions. From there, credibility is elastic and honesty depends on climate
change.
On Facebook, there are the "wannabe influencers"
(in Spanish it would be something like I want and I cannot be the head of the
tribe). These new merchants of the social networks have a need for attention
that leads them to accept as many followers as possible and do what it takes to
have a claque that unrestrainedly applauds anything they publish. Of course,
with this policy of attracting followers at any price, they get colorful
characters, including trolls and losers that impoverish any dialogue and fill
the comments with misspellings and insults. Like any marketing process,
segmentation must be done and these "Like" gurus focus on the
interests of the people, on their lifestyle (Psicogeographic segmentation). For
example, if your audience is fundamentally Cuban, a good idea is to take
advantage of the perennial and recurrent trauma of ... Cuba. And you post
nostalgic photos, inflammatory commentaries in favor of removing the embargo,
the conspiracy paranoia of all your life and the communism / socialism topic as
background seasoning. And if you instigate division of those here, those over
there and those far than there: Voila! A "Facebookencer" is born that
succumbs to his dreams of fame and recognition, those silly human needs. The
new merchant believes himself to be a journalist or acritic, and some people
call themselves Opiniologist, or his variant Gossiplogist, a neologism to
define a variety of Dunning-Kruger effect. And there some who are brilliant and
well-informed people, but like those luminaries of art who cannot live without
the praise of their public, they fall into errors, into the traps of fostering
hatred and into the resentment that ridicule brings.
In short, it is the world of post information. What the ship brought.
