The infinite guilt
Blaming is a defense
mechanism and a more effective way of losing control over one's life. Many
people need to blame others and / or circumstances, because feeling victims
also justify what happens to them.
Thus, with the coronavirus,
we point to the Chinese who eat bat soup and fried pangolin but we do not look
back, after so many years of invading the territory of the wild species that
today compete with us in the middle of the cities seeking to survive. And we
point the finger at Wuhan because the pandemic started in Wuhan, ignoring the
scientific evidence that the virus was swimming in Europe in early December.
And the politicians, as human
as the rest, point the finger at those who are in government, bringing up any
bad step that we are all seeing everywhere because nobody was prepared for what
is happening.
And we shout that there are no masks and that they are defective coming
from China but we ignore that all manufacturing has been passed to China for
many years and that the problem was not to raise tariffs but to manufacture at
home. Ah, but how cheap it has been to go to the Chinese store or Walmart or
Primark and buy a lot of what we don't need!
And the leaders, ignoring the
scientific community, have been babbling guilt of all kinds for three months
instead of executing solutions. Until the dead lie down on them.
And nationalisms also take their finger, with that argument that your
country is more contaminated than mine and it is because they are
undisciplined, or lazy, or corrupt or poor in spirit.
But as this pandemic
progresses and the victims do not respect race, age, country, power, money,
social class, or anything. As the dead fill the morgues and the refrigerated
trucks… It is worth asking: Where do we put the blame?
