Tengo amigos
y amigas mexicanos, argentinos, venezolanos, colombianos y nicaragüenses que
hace varios años viven en Miami. No son tantos como los cubanos que frecuento o
conozco y que viven allí. Y más o menos la proporción se mantiene igual en las
redes sociales.
Hay un fenómeno
curioso con muchos de estos coterráneos que hace alrededor de 20 años o más
salieron de su país de modo definitivo. Aunque allí viven, trabajan, estudian y
mantienen a su familia en la isla con remesas, no es
infrecuente esa crítica a su tierra de acogida por conductas deplorables que
son universales. Pienso que hay mucho de ese lema repetido hasta la saciedad
del ¨imperialismo yanqui¨, temática trasnochada del enemigo necesario para esa extrema
izquierda anquilosada que justifica dictaduras y minimiza la corrupción de los líderes
de su tribu en favor de su ideología casta y pura. Y es que se puede viajar y
emigrar mientras se deja una parte del cerebro en casa.
Y que conste
que no hablo del agradecimiento de facto a quien te da un estatus migratorio privilegiado
para justificar el tapar el sol con un dedo. Son muchos, pero muchos, dentro de
los 300 millones de norteamericanos que han criticado y critican las guerras innecesarias
(¿Recuerdan las protestas cuando Viet Nam?), el derecho a portar armas o los
problemas de la sanidad con cobertura insuficiente y precios manipulados por la
industria farmacéutica. Me refiero a esos cubanos que comienzan su enunciado con
¨este país es¨ o ¨los norteamericanos son¨ para darle latitud propia y geografía
local al abuso infantil, a los hijos que no cuidan sus viejos, a los machistas y
a los que discriminan por raza género, religión u orientación sexual. Como si
esto fuera privativo del país donde trabajan y comen y no una conducta humana
deplorable que es universal. Me viene a la mente un conocido que, hace años
y sin respeto alguno para su audiencia,
dijo que ¨no quería que su hijo adoptivo se educara en este país ¨mientras que
muchos pensábamos en silencio cuantos miles de extranjeros se pagan su estudios
en las más prestigiosas universidades norteamericanas. O simplemente el pasar por
alto lo de que la educación comienza en casa.
En España también veo este fenómeno, pero ya sabemos que el antiamericanismo aquí tiene raíces
que van desde el Tratado de París donde ¨más se perdió en Cuba¨ pasando por la educación
franquista y llegando a los iluminados de la izquierda pura y renovadora.
En el caso de algunos cubanos emigrados a
Estados Unidos el razonamiento prejuicioso no es compatible con acceso a información,
con nivel de inteligencia o con talento de ningún tipo. es como un morboso tatuaje cerebral.
Por que como dijo ese
gran periodista antimacartista que fue Ed Murrow: Todo el mundo es prisionero
de sus propias experiencias. Nadie puede eliminar los prejuicios, simplemente
reconocerlos.
Prejudices and brain tattoos
I have friends Mexican, Argentinian,
Venezuelan, Colombian and Nicaraguan who live in Miami several years ago. They
are not as many as the Cubans who are my friends or acquaintances. And more or
less this proportion remains the same in social networks.
There is a curious phenomenon with
many of these fellow countrymen that about 20 years ago or more left their
country in a definitive way. Although they live there, work, study and maintain
their family on the island with remittances, it is not uncommon that critique
of their host land for deplorable behaviors that are universal. I think there's
a lot of that slogan repeated to the satiety of the ¨ Yankee imperialism ¨,
outdated issue of the enemy necessary for that ankylosed extreme left that
justifies dictatorships and minimizes the corruption of the leaders of its tribe
in favor of its chaste and pure ideology. Because you can travel and emigrate
while leaving a part of the brain at home.
And for the record, I do not speak
of de facto gratitude to those who gave you a privileged immigration status to
justify the sun-covering with a finger. There are many, but many, within the
300 million of Americans who have criticized and still criticized unnecessary
wars (remember the protests when Viet Nam?), the right to bear arms or the
problems of health with insufficient coverage and prices manipulated by the
pharmaceutical industry. I mean those Cubans who begin their statement with ¨
this country is ¨ or ¨ the Americans are ¨ to give their own latitude and local
geography to child abuse, children who do not care for their old, machismo and
those who discriminate for gender, religion or sexual orientation. As if this
were proprietary to the country where they work and eat and not a deplorable
human behavior that is universal. It comes to mind an acquaintance who, years
ago and without any respect for his audience, said that ¨ he did not want his
adopted son to be educated in this country ¨ while many of us quietly thought
that thousands of foreigners are paid for their studies at the most prestigious
American universities. Or just ignore the fact that education starts at home.
In Spain also I see this phenomenon,
but we know that anti-Americanism here has roots that go from the Treaty of
Paris where ¨ more was lost in Cuba ¨ passing through the education from Franco
and reaching the enlightened of the pure and renewing leftists.
In the case of some Cubans who migrated to the
United States prejudiced reasoning is not compatible with access to
information, with level of intelligence or with talent of any kind. Because as
said by that great anti-McCarthyism journalist who was Ed Murrow: Everyone is a
prisoner of their own experiences. No one can eliminate prejudice, simply
recognize them.
